2) It has a population of around 40,00,000 and is the 13th largest city of India. It has been recently declared as the 2nd most cleanest and greenest city in India.
3) Nagpur is also called the "World's Tiger Capital" as it connects many tiger reserves in India to the world. It is among the important cities for the Information Technology sector in Maharashtra. 4) The etymology of Nagpur is uncertain. The Nag civilization propagated Buddhism in India, who were chief inhabitant of Nagpur. They named city, Nagpur, the city of Nags. Or the Nag river, a tributary of the Kanhan river, has been named after its serpentine course; the word for "serpent" in Marathi being "Nag". Nagpur, which lies on the banks of the Nag, takes its name from the river.[15] The word "pur" means "city" in many Indian languages. During the British rule, the name of the city was spelt and pronounced "Nagpore".
5) Nagpur is located at the exact centre of the Indian peninsula. The city has a Zero Mile stone locating the geographical centre of India, which was used by the British to measure all distances within the Indian-subcontinent.
6) Nagpur is known for its greenery and was adjudged the cleanest and second greenest in India after Chandigarh in 2010. Recently the government of India selected Nagpur as a model city for the National Clean Air Mission by allocating 25 crores for the plan. This project will be handled by Nagpur's own National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI).
7) The butibori industrial area is the largest in all of Asia in terms of area. The city is located at the Horizontal and Vertical Centre of India. Famous Restaureur of India Haldiram is also from Nagpur. Nagpur has the biggest Govt. Medical College in Asia.
8) The real estate development in the near by area is rampant. The Wardha road is considered as the new Nagpur and Major real estate projects like Sahara City, big hotels and other projects are coming up in the area. Every City is developed towards the south direction and the Wardha Road is towards the south. On Wardha Road projects like BOEING Workshop, Mihan, first City, Hotel Radisson Blu, Hotel Pride, Hotel Sun-nSand has come-up. MADC (Mah. Airport Devlpt. Corptn) locality in around 140 Acres.
9) Winter lasts from November to January, during which temperatures can drop below 10 °C (50 °F).
